Venipuncturist or phlebotomist is a medical professional who is engaged in tasks like drawing of blood from patients and taking them for either blood tests or blood donations.
In order to be expert in this field, candidate needs to go through training program, which will allow one to obtain phlebotomy certification at the completion of training.
As withdrawing of blood process is quite complex, it requires expert hands, which is only possible if one has certified in phlebotomy field.

Usually the program takes 4-8 months in, which applicant has to complete class room and clinical training.
The class room training comprise of subjective study which covers the topics like the circulatory system and human anatomy, specimen processing and laboratory procedures.
The clinical training is based on gaining of practical experience, which is carried out in hospitals, nursing homes or doctor’s office under the guidance of experienced and certified phlebotomist. Proper supervision on the trainee work is carried out by expert and based on the work performed by trainee his or her work is evaluated at the end of the training.
Once classroom and hands on program is complete, a written examination must be passed by a phlebotomist. The certification covers all the area which a candidate had been taught during the training program.
Once all the requirements are met and candidate passes the exam, he or she is given a phlebotomy certification.
Besides all this, phlebotomist needs to also have additional capabilities, which are related to his personal nature like humble, generous, polite etc. In order to deal with patients nicely and make them comfortable while performing blood withdrawing task, it is important for health professional to be as good as they can. They also need to be good in words so that if any doubts occur in patients mind, then he or she can explain it well that too with a polite voice.
Moreover, it is important for them to be comfortable with duties like using of needles, taking care of patients no matter which race to they belong. In addition to this, they need to be comfortable with withdrawing of blood.
