Could You Be a Nurse Aide? Here’s Guide For You!

Job growth for nursing aides has considerably increased from the past few years. It is projected to increase even more by the end of 2016.

Candidates who are interested in making it as their career need to meet certain educational requirements, which are as follows:

Foremost, they will get acquainted with the courses which are:

  • Basic nursing care

  • Basic home care

  • Nutrition

  • Human anatomy

  • Medical terminology

  • Basic personal care

  • Patient interaction and communication

These courses are taught during the nurse aide training session, which is divided into two parts:

Part 1:

During the initial session, which is also termed as classroom session, students go through subjective part of the course. Human anatomy, medical terminologies are few aspects that are taught to students in the first part of training program. In addition to this, job aspects things like patient care is taught through lectures and visual presentations like audio, video, and practical demonstrations.

Part 2:

With the completion of the classroom session, students will go through second part of training program that is clinical. Real time experience is imparted to students during this session. They will get to work directly with patients and professionals of the in a health care facility. A supervisor will always be there by their side to guide them and help them in performing their duties well. To name a few duties that they would be taught are dressing, bathing & feeding patients, changing bandages, helping patients get out of bed or move, taking vital signs of patients’ like temperature, blood pressure and pulse and giving them emotional support etc.

Certifying exam:

With the completion of training, student will be required to take certifying exam. This exam is authorized by the State government.

Exam comprise of two parts in which questions are related to education imparted to students during the training program.

In the first part of exam, multiple-choice questions are there. Multiple answers are there for a single question and student needs to choose one answer from the given options in the first part of the exam.

The second part comprise of practical exam. An evaluator will be there who will ask student various questions related to the job field.

The combined marks obtained will help determine whether candidate has passed the exam or not and is he or she can become a responsible nurse aide.
