What are the different types of dialysis?

Dialysis is the process of removing waste and fluid from body and purifying the blood. This artificial process is used for the patients who are suffering from kidney failure. Their kidney does not work properly and is unable to eliminate wastes from body. Then physicians use a dialysis machine for removing wastes and fluids. With this treatment, the equipment of dialysis does the work of kidney.

Kidney is an important part of human body. Its main work is removing extra water, toxins, and waste from the human body. It also maintains the safe level of minerals and chemicals such as magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, etc. This organ also plays a part in the systems of constructing blood cells and bone formation. It can stop functioning mildly or permanently, from various reasons such as injury, chronic disease or renal failure, etc.

The machine, which is used for this process was constructed by a Dutch doctor Dr. Willem Kolff in early 1940s.

There are five types of dialysis:

Hemodialysis – In this process, blood of the patient, suffering from kidney diseases, goes through a machine called dialyzer. This equipment has special filters of synthetic fibers. When blood goes through the filter of machine, a solution also flows through fibers. The useless products are filtered with this procedure and clean blood is returned to the patient of kidney failure.

Peritoneal – In this procedure, the dialysate solution flows through a tube into patient’s abdominal body cavity. It is around the intestine and called peritoneal cavity. The solution is rich in glucose and minerals. Peritoneum is a layer of tissues, which contains blood vessels. In this process, osmosis and diffusion removes the waste products and excess water into dialysate through peritoneum. This procedure uses the natural ability of filtering of peritoneum. It continuous till dialysate gets to equilibrium.

Hemofiltration – In this process, blood flows through hemofilter with a pressure gradient. It removes the waste products of human body. It also replaces the extra water and salt removed from patient during treatment, with a replacement fluid.

Hemodiafiltration – It is a combination of hemodialysis and hemofiltration. In this, few things from both Dialyses are used.

Intestinal – In this treatment, fibers like acacia fiber are used to eliminate useless products from patient.

Hemodialysis, Peritoneal, Hemofiltration types of dialysis are the primary ones while Hemodiafiltration and Intestinal are the secondary types.

At hospitals, professionals perform this procedure on patients after getting proper dialysis training. They are trained for it and work under physicians. They take care of this treatment for the patients, who are suffering from kidney diseases.

Why EKG Technicians Are Essential in the Medical industry?

EKG Technicians are responsible for monitoring patient’s cardiovascular activities. They are also known as electrocardiogram or cardiovascular technicians. These professionals diagnose heart with the machine electrocardiogram. This EKG machine traces and records the electrical impulses generated by the heart.

These technicians attach the electrodes to the patient’s Body. These electrodes are attached on the arms, legs, and chest. Then they trace the electrical impulses of the heart with the help of machine. These professionals collect the data from electrocardiogram via printouts and provide these results to the physician for further analysis.

This data is usually collected from the patients with heart diseases. The EKG is also done when a patient suffers from chest pain, before and after surgery or if the physician feels the need for it.

In the healthcare industry, their demand is increasing with every day. They are needed at the hospitals, clinics, cardiologist’s offices etc. Only a trained professional can operate the electrocardiogram.  That is the demand of these technicians is increasing. They perform different tasks at the hospital and clinics such as:

  • Perform EKGs and stress tests
  • Prepare patients for tests and monitoring
  • Edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis
  • Schedule appointments

These technicians perform electrocardiography tests on the patients and prepare them for tests. It is their responsibility to prepare the equipment and room for the medical examination. After completing the examination, they collect all the data and deliver it to the physician so that they can evaluate. They also keep the records and medical histories up to date. They schedule the appointments.

You can become an EKG technician after completing the training and EKG certification. In this ever-growing field, there are lots of jobs. These professionals can get the job in hospitals, clinics, and doctor’s offices. In this training, you will get to learn about several things, which will help you in your career.
At the training, you will learn:

  • Introduction to the process of electrocardiography
  • Different procedures of electrocardiography
  • Details about the Equipment electrocardiogram
  • About various diseases
  • Anatomy of the heart and cardiovascular system
  • Physiology of the heart and cardiovascular system
  • How to take vital signs
  • Medical Terminology
  • Patient’s safety and care

At the training, you will get the classroom education as well as practical training. The classroom education can teach you about all the procedures while with practical training, you will get the hands on experience of those procedures.

How to cure kidney failure?

Kidneys are an important organ of human body that takes care of excretion of wastes like urea and ammonia and reabsorption of essential fluids like water, glucose, and amino acids. Kidneys help in processing gallons of blood on hourly basis. The production of urine is as much as 7 gallons at the end of each day. Kidneys also help to regulate the blood pressure and maintaining the desired level of potassium, sodium and carbohydrates in human body.

The patients suffering from disease related to kidney panic at an early stage, whereas it is curable and patient can become as fit as it can be. The Medicine field has explored new medicines, treatments and techniques so that ailments related to kidneys are curable at an early stage.

Dialysis is an artificial arrangement, where excretion of wastes and water from the blood is possible through a dialyzer. A dialyzer passes the solute from a semi-permeable membrane. It is a simple concept, where solutes move from high concentration to low concentration. The membrane blocks the passage of big solutes like proteins but the small solutes pass through the membrane.

The first patient operated by dialysis technique in 1945 was able to survive seven more years rather than bearing the consequence of the unrelated disease of kidneys. At times, a patient might have to wait for long to get a kidney donor; the dialysis technique proves to be a boon. There are patients complaining about the needles, but at a later stage majority of them are comfortable with the use of needles coming into being. The process might be tiring, might leave you with headache, nausea or cramps. At times, these might occur at initial days, when a patient is experiencing dialysis for the first time.

After dialysis technique, patients might not be able to work on activities, which require a high labor like mechanics, construction or digging. The other routine activities are possible without any hindrances.

There are professionals, specially trained to take care of the patients suffering from kidney failure. These professionals facilitate the patients in the process of dialysis. There are institutes providing dialysis training to aspirants, who wish to serve in the medical field. These institutes are capable of state of the art infrastructure, renowned faculty and enable the students to work in desired field for the betterment of lives of patients.

Pursue Phlebotomy Technician Training for a booming career!

At every hospital, clinic, blood bank, or lab, whenever we need to take some blood, they have a professional called Phlebotomy technician for the work. These professionals, also known as Phlebotomists, draw blood for various reasons at the hospitals or for donations and research at the labs or blood banks. Not everyone can do this work and there are trained people to do this job. It is their job to locate the right vein, disinfect the spot with alcohol, draw the fluid via needle, and treat the puncture.
